Music Monday - Dear and the Headlights

okay, so i have a very very big band crush on these guys going on. i absolutely love nearly all of their songs with extreme passion and seriously can't stop putting their stuff on mixes. i still don't understand why, like, no one talks about them, their music is positively brilliant (not to mention super fun to dance to). plus, dear and the headlights? that's a pretty hard one to beat (i have this thing about awesome band names, okay?).

p.s. bi-weekly from now on, kay? not that it isn't that already, but now it's official :)

Music Monday - Camera Obscura and Lulu and the Lampshades (A Double Feature!)

Okay, so, to make up for all the weeks I've missed, I'm doing a double feature, Camera Obscura and Lulu and the Lampshades.

Scottish Indie-Pop band, Camera Obscura, has been being blasted out from my computer for a while now and been constantly on repeat. I truly can't get enough of their peppy tunes, especially this one song, French Navy. I love it.

and because you've just gotta listen to this one too:

As for Lulu and The Lampshades, well, I seroiusly have no idea why these guys haven't gotten more buzz, they are perfect. Seriously, I couldn't pick just one video. Their music is great and they are super super creative, not only in their music but with their videos too. Definitely worth a listen (or two!).

Music Monday - Oh Land

Some of you have probably already heard of Oh Land, the lovely Danish singer with the futuristic sound who's been catching so much buzz lately. I've been a fan for a while now but never so much as lately, ever since I watched a few of her videos she did with Big Ugly Yellow Couch. (I came to the conclusion that you haven't heard Oh Land until you've heard her live.) She has to be one of the most creative and experimental artists out there right now. And plus she's got one of the most lovely voice to match! Happy Music Monday!

Music Monday - Boy & Bear

Why have I not heard of these guys before? Ugh, so good. Of course I've always had a weak spot for Australian folk bands, but these guys are just so unique and new and fun! And I'm totally crushing on this video, pure perfection. Because who hasn't has a day when they just want to forget everything, dress up like an Indian and go chasing a buffalo? Okay, maybe that's just me, but it's still pretty awesome you got to admit. Some major creativity going on here.

p.s. new mixtape coming soon!

Music Monday - Willoughby

I'm really digging the sounds of this LA band, Willoughby lately. So chill, so mellow and brilliantly written music. Plus the lead singer's voice is perfect, I'm in love! Oh yeah, and then there's this awesome creepy music video with monsters and igors and even some really pretty dresses and hats. Check out some of there other stuff here too, it's all great.

p.s. yes, i know it's tuesday.

Music Monday - Florence + The Machine

After reading Nylon's briliant interveiw with Florence Welch (pg. 144) the other day I have been listening to her music nonstop. I had forgotten how much I loved it! And her for that matter. And this song is pretty much garenteed to put you in a wonderful mood too!

Music Monday - Gene Kelly

Not a very original music monday perhaps but a classic is always good as well. And who doesn't like Singin' in the Rain anyways? Every song in that movie gives an instant cheer-up: bright, happy, bubbly, the untimate a-1, can't-beat-it musical.

And for more fun there's also these: my absolute favorite track from the film and the wonderful Gene Kelly once again, this time tap dancing on roller skates! Just in case you need some extra early week cheer or just because.

Music Monday - Laura Veirs

Been really loving this Laura Veirs song lately and how perfect is it for today? Espicially with it's music video's peach fireworks lighing up the paper sky. I also love all the animals in this, makes me want a camping trip even more. I've been dreaming about bonfires and boating for weeks. Oh well, for now fireworks and ice cream is certainly good enough. Happy Music Monday and Independence Day everybody!

p.s. and how beautiful is that album artwork? i love it!

Music Monday - Joanna Newsom

I've been on a real Joanna Newsom kick lately, listening to her and her magical harp non-stop. She has such a perfectly unique voice and such gorgeous lyrics. This song in particular has inspired me to try and learn to play the harp. Also the video is gorgeous. That dress! Happy Music Monday!

Music Monday - The Like

For me, finding an all-girl group I really care for is like finding a needle in a hay stack (maybe The Bangles?), but I do believe I have now stumbled across one. The Like is fun, peppy and has a super great vibe reminiscent of something between classic girl groups and british invasion acts. I'm espicially digging this song, June Gloom. Perfect for this time of season too, eh?

P.S. I swear, this is not going to turn into Music Tuesday. Next week will be on time :)

Music Monday - Death Cab For Cutie

It's Music Monday on a Tuesday today! Anyway, right now I am so happy today is finally here. I have been waiting for Death Cab For Cutie's new album for a very long time and now it's finally here. Forgive my little girlish excitement please. But in honor of the occasion, how about the music video for one of the album's songs, "You Are A Tourist" for Music Monday today? You like it too? Okay good. Did any of you all watch it live last month?

P.S. New mixtape coming up soon!

Music Monday - The Clientele

Basically, if a band has a good '60s vibe to it, they have my heart, which is why I've been a big fan of The Clientele for some time now. Everything about their sound is perfectly lovely, I can never get enough. And if this song dosen't at least have your toes tapping there's something wrong with you.

Music Monday - HeyKelsey

I have really been obsessing over Cover Song Archive lately and when this lovely lady singing Feist's "1234" came up I just had to take a listen. Gorgeous! So I listened more and found she had some originals out there too. This is my favorite, so pretty. Take a listen!

P.S. Other lovelies here and here.

Music Monday - Chopin played by Eva Brandys

It's Music Monday with a twist here today. I have been listening to this song on repeat for a while now. It's my absolute favorite Chopin piece, too beautiful for words. And I love Eva Brandys' performance of it. It is so filled with feeling and passion. I just hope that one day I can play the piano like that. Happy Music Monday!

Music Monday - Little Joy

The beachy sounds of Little Joy has me hypnotised lately. They feel so much like summer and that's perfect for the weather we've been having here lately. Made of Los Hermanos singer Rodrigo Amarante, Binki Shapiro (who has the most lovely voice) and The Strokes drummer Fabrizio Moretti, these guys have plenty of amazing talent. Be sure to give a listen to this clip too, so '60s. Happy Music Monday!

Music Monday - Noah and the Whale

I'm so excited about Noah and the Whale's newest album, Last Night On Earth. It's so perfect and fun and super upbeat. I especially love the song, L.I.F.E.G.O.E.S.O.N. Maybe a little hard to sing along to but once you've got it, it's awesome! So I thought I'd share that for today. Happy Music Monday everybody!

Music Monday - She & Him

Sorry once again for being a day late. I promise next week will be better. Anyway: some of you may have already heard of the lovely duo, She & Him, they've been pretty big in the alternative world in the last few years. They are a band combining the musical talents of Zooey Deschanel and M. Ward, with truly stunning results and a very early '60s pop sound to their music. They're newest video, for they're song, Don't Look Back is definitely worth a listen, whether an old fan or a new.

Music Monday - Stornoway

... Or should that be Music Tuesday. Sorry about that. Anyway, I've been fans of these guys for a while now. I really love their upbeat, happy tunes. Named after a seaside town in Scotland, Stornoway can almost always guarantee a good mood. Most definitely worth a listen.

Music Monday - James Blake

British electronic artist James Blake has really been rocking my world lately. So different, so experimental, I don't think I've ever heard anything like it. I especially love his cover of Feist's Limit To Your Love but The Wilhelm Scream is also one to check out.
